At Eckert Seamans, we consider ourselves to be part of our clients' teams and help answer the daily challenges confronting them.
Eckert Seamans

Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC is a national full-service law firm based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with two offices located in the Pittsburgh area and eleven other offices located throughout the Eastern United States. The firm has the breadth and depth of resources to deliver quality legal services to a broad range of corporate, individual, entrepreneurial, start-up, nonprofit and government clients, whether such clients are local, regional, national or international. The firm has an institutional culture of excellence, common vision, cooperation and the highest professional standards – all of which are reflected in the way we deliver our legal services. Eckert Seamans has a reputation and presence in the business and the legal communities where each of its offices is located as a community leader and a law firm of choice.

The firm was founded in 1958 when nine attorneys left another Pittsburgh firm and formed Eckert, Seamans & Cherin. The new firm quickly attracted a number of notable clients, including Alcoa, Westinghouse, Levinson Steel, Equitable Gas, Ford Motor Company and the Great A&P Tea Company. Our founders were considered among the best lawyers of their day, and they imparted their high professional standards on the generations of attorneys who have followed them. We now have more than 385 attorneys operating from our 13 office locations.

Attorneys at Eckert Seamans work in almost every field of law, and our attorneys are well known throughout the region and the United States. Our firm continues to attract and retain quality lawyers in all our locations in a manner that is consistent with our traditional culture and our institutional heritage. Our firm’s lawyers and staff reflect the gender, ethnic, age and racial diversity of the communities in which we have a presence.

The firm is efficiently and effectively managed both on an individual office and a firm-wide basis so that our lawyers are not distracted by administrative issues. From a practice standpoint, the firm is organized into two Divisions: the Business Division and the Litigation Division. As you will see elsewhere on our site, each Division is comprised of numerous practice groups, some of which are concentrated in particular offices. With our state-of-the-art teleconferencing and information technology capabilities, we are able to work seamlessly among our offices to bring our full resources to bear on client issues no matter where the client or matter is located. We are particularly proud of the specialized systems we have developed to serve our clients, including our nationally recognized Litigation Management OnlineSM Center, which is designed to efficiently manage thousands of repetitive claims and our mass document processing capabilities, which we have developed to address situations in which millions of documents must be encoded, coordinated and accessed.

Eckert Seamans encourages and supports our women by offering opportunities for advancement, promoting them to leadership roles throughout all our offices and practice groups, creating opportunities to achieve professional success and encouraging them to be voices of authority in the communities in which they live and work. Recently, we've reinvigorated our commitment to the advancement of women within the legal profession by formalizing our efforts through "WIE," Women's Initiative at Eckert. WIE is a firm-wide program designed to foster an energetic and supportive atmosphere for women at our firm. WIE provides a platform for our women to market their professional skills and leadership competencies to others in a manner consistent with the high professional standards and business ethos of Eckert Seamans, while continuing the firm's legacy of excellent service and community prominence.

In addition to the WIE initiative, the firm was recently named among the top-ranked women-friendly firms nationwide, as determined by Working Mother Magazine & Flex-Time Lawyers.

Eckert Seamans is the exclusive member firm for Pennsylvania of Lex Mundi, the world’s leading association of independent law firms. With more than 20,000 lawyers in 560 offices, Lex Mundi member firms are present in more than 100 countries, states and provinces. These law firms provide legal representation and local market knowledge just about anywhere needs may arise. Our firm’s membership in Lex Mundi provides us with global reach and access to legal resources that enhance our ability to serve our clients’ needs around the world. Our primary Lex Mundi contacts are Timothy Q. Hudak and Christopher R. Opalinski.

Eckert Seamans is also a member of SCG Legal, comprised of independent law firms with offices in each state capital with access to senior officials of each state. Member firms of SCG Legal practice independently and not in a relationship for the joint practice of law. Our membership in SCG Legal is chaired by LeRoy S. Zimmerman, Senior Counsel in the firm’s Harrisburg office. Roy was Pennsylvania’s first elected Attorney General and is very active with current and former AGs throughout the country.

Many of the firm’s attorneys are Peer Review-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Buyers of legal services and those making referrals consider Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Ratings invaluable when evaluating a lawyer. The ratings attest to a lawyer’s legal ability and professional ethics and reflect the confidential opinions of the lawyer’s peers, both members of the Bar and of the Judiciary. Since Martindale-Hubbell does not rate all lawyers, the fact that a lawyer is not rated should not be construed unfavorably.

We are very proud of what we have developed at Eckert Seamans and we welcome the opportunity to tell you more about our legal team. As you get to know us better, we think you will agree that our culture makes us different, and that our attorneys, staff and clients thrive on that unique culture.

If you have any questions about the firm as you navigate through our site, feel free to call me personally (412-566-5990) or to contact any of our attorneys or staff members.

Thank you for visiting with us.
