Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, a full-service national law firm, is very pleased to announce that Kathleen A. Gallagher, Member, was recently appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett to the newly formed Higher Education Advisory Panel.
The Higher Education Advisory Panel, comprised of 31 business, education and nonprofit leaders from across the Commonwealth, will study how to make higher education accessible and affordable to the students and the taxpayers of Pennsylvania. The panel will identify key critical issues and review current policies, procedures, regulations and legislation that impacts postsecondary education in Pennsylvania. In addition, the panel is tasked with evaluating trends in education, including the role of technology and how higher education can increase collaboration with the private sector and government.
"It is an honor for me to accept this appointment by Governor Corbett," said Gallagher. "I look forward to serving with the other members of the panel in finding ways to preserve higher education in a climate of budget constraints.”
“It's in everyone's best interest to have an accessible and strong higher education system in the Commonwealth," added Gallagher. “We must find a way to meet those goals within the current economic framework.”
Gallagher, resident in the Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. offices of Eckert Seamans, has a wide range of experience in complex commercial and business matters in areas such as contract, trademark, fraud-based business claims, and environmental disputes. She also has extensive experience in conducting internal investigations for both publicly traded and privately held corporations. She currently represents the Republican Caucus of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in conjunction with the 2011 State and Congressional decennial redistricting of the Commonwealth.
