Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC (Eckert Seamans) is very pleased to announce that the firm’s Harrisburg, Pennsylvania office is the recipient of the Hon. Clarence C. Morrison Equal Professional Opportunity Award. The award, sponsored by the Dauphin County Bar Association's (DCBA) Equal Professional Opportunity Committee (EPOC), is bestowed upon the individual or organization whose contributions most effectively advance equal opportunity and diversity within the Bar. Eckert Seamans was presented with the award at the DCBA Annual Membership Meeting on January 25, 2012 at the National Civil War Museum.
Judge Morrison was the first African American jurist in Dauphin County. During his tenure on the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas, he was highly regarded for his honesty, thoughtfulness and fair treatment of all who came before him. Upon Judge Morrison’s retirement from the bench, the DCBA created the diversity award in his honor.
Among the many factors contributing to Eckert Seamans’ selection as the Morrison Award recipient, according to EPOC Chair and award presenter Royce L. Morris of Goldberg Katzman, P.C., is the firm's “sustained and exceptional effort” to its commitment to diversity through participation in such local programs as the Capital Area Managing Partners (CAMP) Diversity Initiative as well as the efforts of the firm’s Diversity Committee.
Heidi B. Hamman Shakely, Member-in-Charge of Eckert Seamans’ Harrisburg office, commented: "It is an honor to be considered a leader in our commitment to diversity and to be recognized by the DCBA for this prestigious award." She added, “Seeing our efforts recognized in this way only strengthens our commitment to this important issue for the legal profession, and the broader business community.”
