Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, one of the nation’s leading full-service law firms, today announced that Lawrence R. Bailey, Jr. and Thomas M. Smith, both prominent railroad and transportation litigation attorneys, joined the firm’s White Plains, New York office. Prior to joining Eckert Seamans, Larry Bailey was a partner at Hodgson Russ LLP and Tom Smith was a partner at Kardaras & Kelleher LLP.

Larry Bailey is widely recognized for his work in transportation law, including Federal Employers’ Liability Act and other railroad matters, product liability, litigation and personal injury defense. He has successfully represented major railroad companies in defense of significant FELA litigation matters in northern New York and in Federal Court in New Jersey. Active in the profession, Mr. Bailey is a member of the New York State and American Bar associations, the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, Defense Research Institute, Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel and the International Association of Defense Counsel. He earned his J.D. from the New York University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University.
Tom Smith has litigated more than 30 bench and jury trials in the state and federal courts including matters such as FELA, construction, real estate, copyright, wrongful death, toxic tort, medical malpractice, product liability, and premises liability. He has briefed and argued appeals before the Appellate Divisions for the First, Second, Third and Fourth Departments of the State of New York, the Court of Appeals of the State of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Smith is a member of the New York County Lawyers Association, Committee on the Supreme Court and Torts Committee, the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. He earned his J.D. from New York Law School and his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University.
