Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC, a full-service national law firm, is pleased to announce that Bridget E. Montgomery has been chosen as one of the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg's 2010 Women of Excellence. The award ceremony was held on March 24 at the Hershey Lodge. The award recognizes Ms. Montgomery's 25 years of community work, including current service on the Board of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and has included over the years, time and financial support to the Rotary Club, St. Francis Soup Kitchen, Brethren Housing Association, Program for Female Offenders, Vinny’s Kids, Channel’s Food Rescue, Tri-County Association for the Blind, American Red Cross, Cathedral School, St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, and as a mentor in the Pregnant and Parenting Youth Program. Ms. Montgomery notably raised $15,000 for breast cancer patients through the 3-day 60 Mile Walk.
Ms. Montgomery handles a variety of commercial litigation matters for clients involved in manufacturing, real estate, land development and construction, commercial lending, and automobile rental industries. She has handled numerous cases before state and federal courts and agencies, before arbitration panels, and in federal and state appellate courts, in disputes involving contract, construction, trade secrets, commercial banking, lender liability, securities, consumer protection, non-competition, employment, real estate, statutory and constitutional matters. Examples of major cases include constitutional challenges related to government regulation of businesses and individuals, class actions and complex litigation, state-wide redistricting litigation, the defense of a construction manager for a major Commonwealth building project, trade secrets litigation for an international manufacturing company and for a professional trade association, and industrial premises liability litigation
Ms. Montgomery is also a leader in professional and legal education affairs. She co-originated and co-edits the Middle District Manual, the guide to federal practice in the United States Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. She previously served as the President of the Middle District's chapter of Federal Bar Association, and is the long-time chair of its continuing legal education committee. She chairs the Middle District Court's Lawyer’s Advisory Committee, and has served on the Third Circuit Court of Appeal's Lawyers Advisory Committee since 2004. She serves the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as Vice-Chair of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's Committee on Rules of Evidence, and served for seven years on the Supreme Court's Appellate Rules Committee. She served as the Vice-Chair of the PBA's Federal Practice Committee, and served three terms in the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s House of Delegates. In the past, Ms. Montgomery has chaired the PBA's Judicial Selection and Administration Committee, served on PBA's Judicial Candidates Ratings Reform Committee and its Judicial Campaign Advertising Committee, and served as a Director of the Dauphin County Bar Association.
Ms. Montgomery is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the joint Law School/Wharton Labor Law Journal. She earned her undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University with highest distinction.
